Many families
have to survive on an income well below the poverty line. The lack of adequate subsistence affects children in particular, who are often malnutritioned and have no opportunity of getting even a primary education. With a small source of start-up funding, it would be possible for these people to create a sustainable source of family income, but obtaining a bank credit is beyond their reach. For these families, an interest-free loan from a charity fund helps them make the first step out of the poverty cycle.
Handicraft
Creative people live everywhere. There are many such people in Rwanda. It does not take much for them to express their imagination. They are active and they have ideas and plans. In hard times when jobs are scarce, one option is to take charge and create a workplace. There is a good market for handicraft products and the tourist industry is beginning to recover. With a little help to start off, the people’s small enterprises work well.
Services
Services comprise a very promising segment, especially in countries without a large industrial base. Development of services is a major, nationwide task. We want to encourage entrepreneurship at a basic level and reach as many people as possible. This may be a small contribution to the overall development of the country, but it will have a direct impact upon many people’s quality of life.
Sales
Sales are a quick way to gain an income but
a little investment is essential to start up a business. A small loan
can make all the difference in helping to open a shop, a market stall
or a chicken farm. In the long term we aim for the development of sales and services by combining technologies in innovative ways that add value and create new businesses.
