Poverty Relief

The consequences of genocide in Rwanda are immeasurable. Legacies of the 1994 genocide include: the problems of orphans, widows, street children, destruction of social and economic infrastructures, AIDS, fear, frustration and mistrust among people.

Rwanda undergoes currently a period of intense development, many people make big money, unfortunately even more people slide below the poverty level.

Amahoro Foundation strives to balance the vertical development, where the rich become richer and the poor become poorer, with horizontal development equalising chances among social strata. Poverty is also a potential source of problems for the whole nation. Poverty generates crime and disease. The action taken by Amahoro concentrates on three areas:
  1. Street children: those who literally have nothing except for what they are wearing.
  2. Orphans: the ones in the organised institutions as well as the self-sufficient ones having still a house and a source of income.
  3. Local community as a part of civil society can provide support for children, orphans and students.

Rwanda Genocide Archive
(Education)		The Rwanda Genocide Archive is dedicated to providing free access to a large collection of documents concerning the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. The goal is to create both paper and electronic archives (available to the public online via the Internet).DonateRealisation
Income generating activities.
(Poverty Relief)		Giving money to poor people is no solution. Instead we use a system of a small loans e.g. to buy material and paint and make batik clothes, buy chickens and sell eggs, buy wholesale charcoal and sell at retail prices. Our aim is to empower people.DonateRealisation
Social Centre for Street Children
(Poverty Relief)		The legacy of war - thousands of street children. They are the handicapped ones and the difficult ones. It is not enough to provide them a shelter, and force them into. Their trauma must be reduced gradually through a social adjustment program.DonateRealisation
